LOS ANGELES, CA

2015

This house—located in the charming Atwater Village neighborhood, in California—was built in 1940 in a Tudor-revivalist style. While preserving the house’s original exterior lines, we set out to create a modern residence with a complete interior renovation, removing partition walls in the kitchen and living room to create open-plan spaces and to open up garden views. Expanding the rear area created a 1,500-square-foot house. To make the most of the available space, we transformed the attic into the master bedroom with en-suite bathroom and a terrace with views over the garden, taking away partition walls. We installed a iron staircase to provide access to the second floor, with steps made of walnut. The bespoke kitchen features marble, walnut and stainless steel surfaces. The polished-concrete floors on this floor give a special touch to the living room.
